Darwin

Since our last post we have travelled from Katherine and spent the last two weeks in Darwin.  Our stay in Darwin has allowed us to have both the truck and trailer serviced as well as catch up with some friends we knew in Canberra who now live in Darwin - Celia & Nick, Jo & Paul and Ned. We also caught up with some new friends that we have met on the road over the last month or so and we went on a sunset dinner cruise around Darwin Harbour with Ros & Laurie and Jean and Allan - had a great time.

We spent the first week in a caravan park but have been lucky enough to house sit for Celia and Nick for two weeks and will leave here on Sunday 7 July.  Lots to see and do in Darwin - we've been to the markets at Parap and Mindil Beach, the NT Museum and the Darwin Military Museum and Defence of Darwin exhibition. All were good, but the highlight so far has been our all day cruise on the Adelaide River.  Cocodiles, crocodiles and more crocodiles up close and personal - I kept imagining them as handbags and shoes!!! They were so close to the boat you could reach out and touch them, although that's not advised. It was a fabulous day with lots of fantastic birdlife on display as well. Also called in at Goat Island which is owned by a real character called Kai - he lives there with two dogs and four chooks.  There is a pub and a couple of motel type rooms - it's the only island on the Adelaide River.
